Reception and Film Launch « Timely Deception »
Reception and Film Launch « Timely Deception »
In November 2014, the Association franco-yukonnaise presented « Trompe-l'heure et tromperies / Timely Deception », a bilingual play at the Old Fire Hall, based on the original work by Michel Ouellette, a Franco-Ontarian playwright. The Yukon production reflected a Yukon situation by members of the Franco50 network of older Yukoners. It was filmed in front of a live audience.
We cordially invite you to come and meet with members of the cast and crew at the launch of the play's film version. Complimentary DVDs of the play will be offered, as well as other material produced during the course of our project on the prevention of abuse and fraud of older adults and how you can help.
This reception highlights the National Victims of Crime Awareness Week. This film is made possible thanks to the generous support of the Department of Justice of the government of Canada.
Storyline
We find Baptiste Potvin, resident of an extended care facility, grappling with a guilty conscience. During the course of his long convalescence, he has managed to recover from acute depression by repressing his regrets, all the while faking dementia in order to keep his room. But the past won't let him be, and it could well disrupt his safe little world! Not only is he likely to be released from the residence, he's confronted with an abusive situation between a good friend and her daughter. Will he finally listen to his inner voice calling him to assert himself, and act, or will he play the poor demented soul act even more?
