Je parle français And I Love in English
In 2013, a group of more than 30 francophone women in the Yukon Territory, joined together to share their stories and convey their experiences into the hit theatrical performance, Je parle francais And I Love in English. Both funny and touching, the play recounts the unique experience of exogamic relationships, by reflecting on the stages couples go through, the ways in which they adapt, and the difficulties they face when partners do not share the same language.
"I wanted to give a voice to women who never speak French in their daily lives and who struggle to maintain their language and pass it on to their children. It is mainly thanks to them that bilingualism remains alive in Canada. Behind the rich culture and heritage created by bilingualism in our communities is a complex reality that makes them possible, and this needs to be acknowledged and celebrated for generations to come." says creator Ketsia Houde.
Je parle français And I Love In English 2015 will be presented for the second time in Yukon at the Old Fire Hall on March 6th and 7th. Performance starts at 7:30 pm.
Funding for this project has been made possible thanks to the financial support of Heritage Canada, the Yukon Arts Fund and Lotteries Yukon. In partnership with l'Association Franco-yukonnaise and Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie 2015.
