2019 Election: between continuity and change
2019 Election: between continuity and change
Whitehorse, October 23, 2019
- The Association franco-yukonnaise (AFY) congratulates the Liberal Party of Canada on winning the largest number of seats in the House of Commons, and Larry Bagnell on his re-election as Member of Parliament for the Yukon. The AFY also congratulates all those who have been elected and all the other candidates who participated in this long campaign, both here and elsewhere in Canada.
"During their campaigns, the heads of the five parties elected to the House of Commons supported the modernization of the Official Languages Act. We now invite the parties elected by the people of Canada to work together around this issue - one that unites the country and is vital for the development of official language minority communities," said AFY President Jeanne Beaudoin.
In the lead-up to the federal election, the Table des leaders de la Francophonie du Yukon, in which the AFY participated, identified five priority action areas for the Yukon Francophone community: The Official Languages Act, investments in key sectors for the Yukon Francophone community, health services in French, French-language education, and Francophone immigration.
"We will make sure Mr. Bagnell understands these five priority areas and that they lead the MP for the Yukon and the next government to engage with the Yukon Francophone community and take concrete steps on its behalf," Ms. Beaudoin added.
The AFY is therefore enthusiastic in its steadfast commitment to focus on these priorities and to continue to work with the Member of Parliament for the Yukon in order to improve the vitality of the Yukon Francophone community.
