Destination Canada 2016
The AFY team met more than 400 people at the 12th edition of the Destination Canada mobility forum held in Paris November 15 to 17, and in Brussels, on November 19, 2016. The goal of this annual fair is to inform job seekers of the opportunities available to them to live and work in Canada.
This annual forum highlights job and living opportunities in Canada and enables potential immigrants to meet with representatives of Canadian provinces and territories other than Quebec.
By participating in Destination Canada, the Yukon was able to establish itself among many applicants wanting to settle in Canada. The latter were looking for work in a number of fields, including tourism, construction, administration and management, transportation, engineering, hairdressing, plumbing, the environment, teaching, early childhood, biology and health.
Employers sometimes find it difficult to recruit locally or nationally, so they look to international recruitment to meet their workforce needs. The AFY represented ten companies at the forum and promoted some sixty job offers. Our team came back with about 400 resumés to give to employers represented at the forum. One employer has already hired an employee since Destination Canada 2016 and another is currently in the hiring process.
More than 60% of the candidates interviewed knew little about the Yukon until we made our presentation. For others, who were very interested in the territory and wished to come here, our presence helped make the idea a reality. We left a beautiful image in the minds of people who dream of settling in a place like ours.
The AFY's participation in Destination Canada was made possible through the financial contribution of the Government of Yukon.
