A Week to Celebrate Yukon's French-speaking Immigrants
Whitehorse, November 3, 2015 - On the occasion of the 3rd National Francophone Immigration Week, the Association franco-yukonnaise (AFY) is joining Canada's Francophone and Acadian communities to showcase the contributions of French-speaking immigrants to the vitality and dynamism of the Yukon.
"Francophone immigrants contribute greatly to the economic, artistic and cultural success of the Yukon. In fact, they make up 15% of the Franco-Yukon community," said AFY President Angélique Bernard. "Over the coming year, AFY wants to work with the Government of Yukon to develop and implement a strategy to increase Francophone immigration to the Yukon," she added.
The AFY invites Yukoners to participate in National Francophone Immigration Week by thanking immigrants for their contribution to Yukon's development. The general public is also invited to the Café-rencontre, this Friday, November 6, at 5:00 p.m., at the Centre de la francophonie, which will feature a multicultural meal prepared especially for the occasion.
The AFY also invites you to find and like the Direction Yukon Facebook page to keep up with Francophone immigration initiatives or publish your thanks.
