Election 2015: Change for Canada and Yukon
Whitehorse, October 21, 2015 - The Association franco-yukonnaise (AFY) congratulates the Liberal Party, Prime Minister-designate Justin Trudeau and Yukon Liberal Member of Parliament Larry Bagnell, for their great victory, as well as all the elected officials and candidates who participated in this long campaign. The AFY also wishes to thank Yukon's outgoing Member of Parliament, Ryan Leef, for his support of the Yukon Francophonie during his tenure.
"During their campaign, the Liberals committed to developing an improved plan for official languages and ensuring that all government services are provided in accordance with the Official Languages Act," said AFY President Angélique Bernard.
"We hope that this wind of change will be an excellent opportunity to enhance program delivery under the Roadmap for Canada's Official Languages 2013-2018," noted Ms. Bernard. "Almost three years after the Roadmap's launch, some of its programs have yet to see the light of day, and others are implemented in a manner that excludes certain organizations, such as ours, thereby significantly hampering the development of our community," she added.
It is therefore with optimism that the AFY commits to working with the new government in a spirit of collaboration and openness to improve the quality of life of French-speaking Yukoners.
