French Electoral Forum in the Yukon
Whitehorse, September 25, 2015 - The Association franco-yukonnaise (AFY) is pleased to invite the Yukon French-speaking community to Coast High Country Inn on September 26 for an electoral forum in French bringing together Yukon's four candidates for a seat in Parliament, namely, Melissa Atkinson, New Democratic Party; Larry Bagnell, Liberal Party; Frank de Jong, Green Party; and Ryan Leef, Conservative Party.
"AFY would like to thank all the candidates for responding enthusiastically to the call," said Angélique Bernard, President of AFY. "This meeting will be an excellent opportunity for members of the community to ask the candidates questions in French and learn more about their commitment to the Yukon and its French-speaking community."
Each candidate will be invited to make a two-minute opening statement, then answer two questions sent to them earlier by AFY and its partners, one concerning French newspapers and the other, early childhood. Members of the public will then be able to put questions of their own, without restriction, to the candidates. At the end of the forum, the candidates will each have two minutes for closing remarks.
The candidates will speak to the public in French or will have someone on hand who can serve as their interpreter. The forum will be moderated by Brett Ballah, Managing Editor, British Columbia-Yukon, Société Radio-Canada.
Prior to the forum, AFY also sent the candidates a series of questions on the development of Francophone minority communities, more specifically on health care, education, culture and immigration programs and services. The questions and answers are available in French at
This forum électoral will begin at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, at Coast High Country Inn, 4051 - 4th Avenue in Whitehorse. It is being held in conjunction with the 33rd Annual General Meeting of the AFY to be held on the same day and at the same location.
