Celebrating Whitehorse-Lancieux 15th Anniversary of Friendship
Whitehorse, September 24, 2015 - The City of Whitehorse and the Association franco-yukonnaise (AFY) invite you to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of Whitehorse-Lancieux Sister City connection this Friday, September 25 starting with the raising of the Lancieux Flag Ceremony in front of City Hall (2121 2nd Avenue) at 5:00pm. It will be followed by a Reception at the Trolley Roundhouse Station (1127 Front St) and will mark the official launch to Culture Days with the City of Whitehorse.
"Whitehorse continues to enjoy a strong relationship with Lancieux and we are happy to be celebrating 15 years of friendship," said Whitehorse Mayor Dan Curtis. "We truly value our Francophone community and thank AFY, Yann Henry in Whitehorse, and Marie Conan in Lancieux for their continued dedication and collaboration so we are able to enjoy this wonderful Sister City relationship."
Both cities share a history with the poet Robert W. Service, as he adopted these two locations as his homes for his poetic inspirations. The great affection he had for these towns still brings the sister cities of Whitehorse and Lancieux together today.
"Although the French seaside town seems a far cry from Whitehorse, our northern capital, Lancieux held, like Whitehorse, a special place in the heart of the Bard of the Yukon. It is our pleasure to share that important but lesser known part of his life with all Yukonners" said Angelique Bernard, president of AFY. "We sincerely thank the City of Whitehorse for this successful collaboration and the Whitehorse Waterfront Trolley for its warm welcome."
The reception is free and open to everyone.
