Celebrating Whitehorse-Lancieux Friendship
Whitehorse, September 25, 2014 - The City of Whitehorse and the Association franco-yukonnaise (AFY) invite you to celebrate the 14th Anniversary of the Whitehorse-Lancieux Sister City relationship in high class tonight, September 26. The Raising of Lancieux Flag Ceremony in front of City Hall (2121 2nd Avenue) will be followed by a Reception at the Trolley Roundhouse Station (1127 Front St).
"Our relationship with Lancieux holds a special place in my heart. I find it inspiring to know that our famous poet Robert Service used to work a block away from my office at City Hall, and that he gained such inspiration from our community for his poetry," said Whitehorse Mayor Dan Curtis. "Our city is so pleased to celebrate our sister city relationship with Lancieux."
The link between Whitehorse and Lancieux: Robert W. Service
Lancieux was very special to the Bard of the Yukon. Although the seaside town seems a far cry from Whitehorse, our northern capital, Robert W. Service found the same inspiration there. The great affection he had for our cities still brings Whitehorse and Lancieux together today.
"As well as marking the bonds of friendship between the two cities, we honor Robert W. Service by telling an important but lesser known part of his life. We invite you on a voyage, a return trip Whitehorse-Lancieux, inspired by the world of the French Cafés, "proposed Angelique Bernard, president of AFY. "We sincerely thank Espace France Yukon and the Whitehorse Waterfront Trolley for their support."
Participants are welcome to an open reception following the ceremony. For more information:
